Your personal private place on the web

The new Sampa keeps what is most important to you -- your content -- and changes everything around it. The result is a system that you'll find is faster and easier to use. But, if you're used to the old Sampa, it may take a little time to get used to the changes. This page will tell you what's new and what's changed.

Feature What's Changed
User Interface Did we mention it's faster and easier to use? We listened to your feedback about what was hard to use and what was important to you, and we reorganized and optimized the entire user experience around the things that matter the most to you.
Integrated Design Tools Whether you want to visit, edit, or manage your new Sampa site, you'll now use the same site address that your friends and family do. Whenever you visit your site and are signed in, you'll see special editing and management controls that are available only to administrators and editors. At the top, you'll find buttons for the things that you do most often, along with a Manage button which lets you change the content, design, and settings of your site. Within your site, you'll see pencil icons for items that you can edit with a single click. And, whenever you make changes, you'll see them immediately on the site.
Blogs Blogs are better looking and it's just one click to add a new blog post whenever you visit your site. You can create a blog for each of your family members.
Themes We have a completely new set of stunning themes. Our new themes are better looking and more consistent than what we had before and the layout is now independent of the theme. Each theme comes with matching sets of colors, so you can pick the colors you like and know they'll go with the theme, and all page elements automatically match the theme and colors. We're sure that you'll find a theme that's perfect for you, but, if you don't, you can also use one of our "custom" themes to create a theme out of your own picture or illustration.
Site Layout We've changed the way site layout works to make it much easier to use. The default layout will work for most people, but you can switch the location of your menu or sidebars if you like. We'll add additional options in the future.
Content Boxes Content box styles now automatically match the current theme, and we have a new set of content box styles that work well with all of our themes. Note that you can no longer set a different style for each content box.
Sidebars Our new sidebars feature allows you to place the contents of any page in a sidebar, rather than making you edit pages and content boxes in two different places. For example, you can make a page a sidebar when it's new information, then still keep the independent page when you no longer want the content in a sidebar.
Home Page You can put any blog, album, or page on your home page. By default, we show put your blog on your home page (if you have multiple blogs we'll show an integrated list of blog entries from all of your blogs).
Guestbook You can create a Guestbook just by adding it to your site.
Multiple Sections New Sampa sites can have multiple sections, each with its own theme and content. Each section can have up to two editors, who can edit any of the content in that section, perfect for giving a child their own piece of your web site. Previously, to get the equivalent organization on your site, you had to manually create folders and page layouts.
Permissions Your site can be public or private, with access permitted to only those people you invite. If you have a multi-section site, each section can be public or private.
What's missing
In the process of making the new Sampa much easier to use, we found we had to eliminate some things. Some of these items are noted above. In addition, since page layout now occurs automatically from the options you specify, you can no longer place content boxes anywhere you want. If you have a highly-customized home page, you may not be able to achieve the same look as you could previously. Menus are now calculated automatically based on the content of your site and you can no longer have menu items which link outside of your site. We have also removed some advanced configuration options.
